Privacy Policy

Your data is yours.

We collect only what we need to sign you in and store your soil records. We do not sell your data, and your records are encrypted at rest.

Last updated: June 1, 2026

The short version

  • We do not sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
  • We collect only what we need. A phone number or decentralized identifier (DID) to sign you in, and the soil records you choose to store.
  • Your records are encrypted at rest. Stored data is sealed with AES-256-GCM; credentials are protected with Argon2id.
  • Passwordless by design. You sign in with a one-time code sent to your phone, or with a MATA Sovereign ID — there is no password for us to leak.

What we collect, and why

To create your account and sign you in, we collect a phone number (used to send a one-time code) or a decentralized identifier (DID) if you sign in with a MATA Sovereign ID. We use this only to authenticate you and to communicate with you about the service.

When you use The Soil App, we store the soil records you create — readings, recommendations, fields, and the notes you attach to them. This data exists so the product can do its job: show you trends, generate recommendations, and keep a history you can rely on.

We do not collect data we do not need. We do not build advertising profiles, and we do not track you across other websites.

How your data is protected

Soil records and account data are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM. Where you set a secret, it is protected using Argon2id key derivation rather than being stored directly. Data in transit is protected with standard transport encryption (HTTPS).

Access to stored data is limited to what the service requires to operate. We do not sell or rent your data, and we do not use it for creditworthiness, lending, or scoring of any kind.

This website

Our marketing site (the one you are reading) may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand traffic patterns — page views, referrers, rough geography. Where a standard analytics provider such as Google Analytics is configured, it is wired through the website's tracker layer.

We do not run advertising pixels that follow you around the internet. Standard browser privacy controls and ad-blockers will fully neutralize anything this site loads.

Third-party services

A small number of third-party providers help us operate — for example hosting, content delivery, message delivery for sign-in codes, and aggregate-traffic analytics. When they are involved, your information is governed by their privacy policies in addition to ours, and we share only the minimum needed for the service to function.

We do not share data with advertisers, data brokers, or anyone whose business model is reselling user information.

Your choices

You can ask us at any time what information we hold about you, request that we correct it, or request that we delete your account and the records associated with it. Use the contact address below and we will respond within a reasonable window.

Children

The Soil App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has shared information with us, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in any meaningful way, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you directly.
